2026 SWISS GC CHAMPIONSHIP
The tournament was held on the CERN Croquet Lawns from 11–12 September. Fifteen players representing three Swiss Croquet Clubs (CERN, Sion, and Zürich) participated in what was a friendly, spirited competition under delightful weather conditions.
The tournament was won by Ian Sexton, who beat Daniel Studerus in a best-of-three-game final. Further prizes were awarded. For detailed information on the outcome of all games played, please consult the following link: https://croquetscores.com/2026/gc/swiss-championship

Historic win at the CERN Croquet Club
The CERN Croquet Club hosted its annual International Gateball Singles and Doubles Tournament over the weekend, welcoming players from several European clubs for two days of friendly, yet competitive play.
The club was especially honoured to welcome Keiichi Imagawa, President of the World Gateball Union, who travelled from Japan especially to attend the tournament. His presence made the weekend particularly memorable for the organisers and players.
In the doubles competition, Udo Thome and Theo Densborn from Gransdorf, Germany, claimed the title after defeating Nina Underhill from CERN Croquet club and her partner, Sylvie Mouquet from Beaune, France, in the final.
The singles competition concluded with a historic all-women final between doubles partners Nina and Sylvie. Nina secured the victory, becoming the first woman to win the tournament’s Singles Cup—an important milestone in the event’s history.
Congratulations to all the winners and participants, and thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s international tournament another great success.

Our Club’s Lawn Bowls Section Visit to Champéry
Six members of our club have just spent two fun-filled days at the Lawns Bowls Club in Champéry, led by our Club President (pictured) and Alan, the manager of the CERN Croquet Club Lawn Bowls section. Once again, they were made to feel very welcome, and there is no doubt that a tradition is now well and truly established.

Bowls indoors is vastly different from bowls on grass: there is hardly any resistance to movement, hardly any friction and so bowls run far longer indoors and the curling effect of the bias of the bowls is far more pronounced.

First CERN GC Croquet Club Women’s Championship
Winner: Margaret Vine, Runner-Up: Barbara Perkins
Six players competed in the Club Women’s GC Championship on an almost perfect summer’s day. The results were close, with the winner winning all of her games. To decide second place between Beryl Allardyce and Barbara Perkins—who tied with three wins each—the manager had to turn to the third criterion, “Who Beat Whom,” with Perkins edging out Allardyce by a single hoop. All participants and spectators enjoyed a day marked by great competition, good sportsmanship, and a friendly atmosphere.

CLUB OPEN DAY
Our Club held an Open Day for all members and non-members on Saturday August 8th 2026 where all three sports were on display.
